Blackwater Timber Lodge isn’t just another duck hunt—it’s the kind of hunt most people thought disappeared years ago.
This is the duck camp experience many of us grew up hearing about. Early mornings. Coffee on the porch. Worn wood, muddy boots, and the sound of wings cutting through the timber at daylight. At Blackwater Timber Lodge, we’ve built a place where those traditions are still alive.
Our lodge combines the atmosphere of an old Southern duck camp with the comfort and hospitality of a high-end hunting lodge. It’s a place where hunters gather, stories get told, and the focus stays where it belongs—on great hunting and good company.
Our hunts take place across a variety of classic waterfowl environments including flooded timber, marsh, and open water. We hunt both carefully selected public and private ground, using boats and traditional blinds to put you where the birds want to be. Every hunt is guided by experienced waterfowl hunters who work relentlessly to give you the best opportunity at a successful day in the field.
Located in the Appalachian foothills of North Alabama, Blackwater Timber Lodge sits in one of the country’s best kept waterfowl secrets. These bottomlands have been hunted for generations, and we’re proud to carry that tradition forward.
If you’re looking for a true duck camp experience—where the hunts are real, the traditions are honored, and the birds are flying—Blackwater Timber Lodge is the place.

Magnolia Rose Gundogs
At Magnolia Rose Gundogs, we are dedicated to providing our clients with truly world-class hunting
dogs. Whether you’re an upland hunter, a waterfowl enthusiast, or pursue both, we offer dogs that
perform at the highest level in the field while remaining exceptional companions at home.
Our gundogs are driven, intelligent, and highly trainable—capable of steady work, powerful
retrieves, and confident performance in demanding conditions. Just as importantly, they possess
the temperament and loyalty that make them outstanding family dogs.
From the first flush to the final retrieve, a Magnolia Rose dog is built to perform and raised to be part
of your life both in the field and at home.
At Magnolia Rose Gundogs, every dog is fully prepared for the field before going home. If we are
not confident enough to guide clients over that dog, then he simply is not ready. Our standard is
simple — hunt ready means hunt proven.
We exclusively train two breeds from two programs we know and trust:
• English Cocker Spaniels from Ryglen Gundogs
• British Labradors from Wildrose Kennels
We understand these pedigrees, their natural instincts, and how to develop them efficiently and
correctly. Because of this, we only train dogs from these two kennels. If you have a puppy from
either program, we are happy to train your dog. We do not accept dogs from other kennels.
Our training program is built on clear communication and trust. We do not rely on electronic collars.
Our dogs are whistle trained and handled with consistency, discipline, and fairness.
We also require every owner to spend at least one full day with us learning to properly handle their
dog. A finished dog is only as good as its handler, and we are committed to setting both up for
success. Lodging is available during your stay.
For clients who purchase their dog before it is finished — which many do — we strongly encourage
visiting the kennel during training. Spending time working with your dog early helps establish the
foundation for a lasting relationship built on trust and understanding.
At Magnolia Rose Gundogs, our goal is not just to send home a trained dog — but to send home a
confident hunting team.
